X2 - nuclear overdrive.

The X2 is a sweet dual mode pedal that offers both clean overdrive and also can be used as a really killer distortion unit. It's very easy to operate, too. There is a Gain knob, a Volume knob, and a Mode Switch. That's it. No tone controls.

The X2 uses the same X v2.0 pcb that the X pedal does.

X v2.0 PCB

With the Mode switch in OD mode, the pedal operates very cleanly up until you hit around 65% or so of available Gain. Once you exceed that level, the pedal starts to crunch-up a bit. If you run the Gain knob WFO in OD mode, then the X2 produces a pretty cool crunch tone that brings to the table some of the greatest granular type crunch that I've ever heard. No kiddin'. Back the Gain knob down and open the Volume control all the way and the X2 provides clean and really punchy/powerful overdrive. It's about as transparent as it gets too. Nothing but your guitar tone coming through. Can be used as just a clean booster/od to drive your tube amp into breakup, or any other application where you want more gain.

X2 in BlueNuke in Distortion Mode

In the Distortion Mode, the X2 has an aggressive and very punchy kind of grind, and midrange is brought up a bit as well to thicken it up. Think of songs like Sin City, There's Only One Way to Rock, or Turn Me Loose (yea I know ... Loverboy ... ugh ... but you get my point, right?). Now, reduce the grind level a little and the X2 becomes an EXCELLENT low to medium gain drive pedal that has a really really nice early break-up sound. If you play Blues of any kind, this pedal will work just great for you! Heavy Blues, traditional type, Tejano-style, whatever! And just to get it said and out there ... the X2 ain't no Toob Skreemer! Nothing anywhere remotely close to that notable circuit.

*** VIDEO - The X combined with the jfet Boost. Here's an excellent example of two of our circuits used together, that ended up inspiring 2 all new pedals. Great video of an X with the "Brit Voice" mod done to it. The X andX2 both use the X pcb, so the nmods done to the X depicted in this video definitely apply to the X2 as well. By itself the modded X/X2 is nice and wooly sounding .. just what I was shooting for. However when driven by the Boost Jfet booster (currently known as the BOOSTEN 2 channel boost), it comes alive and sounds completely awesome ... instant *almost* JCM800 Plexi. Oh and jsyk, the Modal Overdrive and Jfet Boost stages of the MODEL 9 can be voiced exactly as you hear in this video of that combo of pedals. And one other thing, the Boost pedal in this video uses precisely the same circuit as what is in the Boost section of the Model 6 and the Model 9 .. :)

The X2 is one of my favorite designs. It's versatile, very easy to use, and sounds just super. My SG (loaded with 59's) is like attached at the hip to one of these. It gives it so much of it's own character (the guitar's character, I mean) and makes the feel of the fretboard so much more responsive to technique (as if I had any technique to speak of! Haa!). Ok now I'm just sounding like a proud father bragging on his kid. :)

The X2 plays well with others, and matches up well with any of our compressors (as well as competitors' offerings), and it also LOVES to be driven by other pedals.

No performance options are available with the X2, it pretty much comes as you see it. However, we do offer the X2 in all of our optional finishes, but if you need mods or options that affect performance you need to look at our X (as opposed to the X2). The X is our modifyable platform that uses the same circuitry as the X2. The only options for the X2 are cosmetic. That said, please note that we can offer the X2 without the flip-up safety cover for the mode switch.

As mentioned earlier, you can opt-out of the flip-up safety cover on the Mode switch if you like. Price is unaffected by that option. :)
