Model 9 Prototype

This is the very first Model 9 that was ever constructed.

In the first week of November 2009, Noel Hogan of The Cranberries wrote and asked me to design something for him. I accepted his request and designed a PCB that used a combination of my JOE boostercomp and my AMP-1 solid state amplifier circuit to be used in the module known today as the Model9. A fella named Brett Kingman helped me decide on the name, as I had a list of names that was a half mile long, so Mr. Kingman helped me narrow it down. After weeks of wringing my brains out about it, ultimately I decided on "Model9" because it was my ninth circuit design. The circuit itself, the actual circuit board, and the module were all designed, constructed, and shipped to Noel before Thanksgiving of 2009. I'd never designed and produced a new circuit and new module in such a short period of time before, or since. That circuit and it's corresponding module were burning inside of me and shot from my mind like so many mental fireworks.

I designed the actual PCB on my CAD system and loved it so much. It's sound reminded me of those early days of Rock and Roll when players were just learning how to really crank their amps and get loud. That whole rock-era was filled with such fire and heat and emotional lightning. And in my present time when I designed that circuit, I too was in a state of mental and emotional lightning and thunder. So, the circuit was named "Early Days of Fire". Here we are in the Summer of 2012 and that PCB is still named Early Days of Fire v2.0. As far as I'm concerned I am still in Farndurk's "early days of fire". New ideas continuously spring forth from my mind like so many new blooms of flame. Fireworks of thought and creation still erupt from deep within me, the flares of inspiration still easily ignited.

Indeed, these are still our Early Days of Fire.

Here's a few pictures of the original Model9 that I built for Noel Hogan. This is the very module that was designed from the nothingness of mental vapor and constructed into the tangible creation you see here in these pictures in less than three weeks, and in Noel's hands in less than four weeks after he'd contacted me with his request for something special. The Model 9 literally exploded from me.

Legacy ....

This Model 9 and the engine that drives it known as the Early Days of Fire PCB have given rise to a number of very successful modules and subcircuits. The entire "Model Series" as well as the entire "MEGA Series" are all offspring of this module and the electronic circuit that powers it. The current rendition of the Model 9 is one of my most successful designs to date. This is one of those fruiting-tree creations that produces inspirations that drive new ideas.

... and the days of fire continue on ...

(070112) We just shipped out another Model 9 that was designed for his bandmate Dolores O'riordan and a MEGA9 that was designed for Noel. Seems he can't get enough of our fire.
